Getting the silent treatment can be a good thing
When you hear about someone getting the silent treatment, it brings up negative feelings. But when I have clients who give me the silent treatment during their massage sessions, I consider it a good thing.
Sound strange? Well, think of it this way. We are always surrounded by so much noise. On the street, at work, in the coffee shop. Everywhere you go you hear other peoples’ conversations, or music or traffic noises or advertisements. It is so hard to think straight with so many distractions, isn’t it?
When my clients come in for a massage therapy session, they are treated to a full sensory experience that is designed to take away all that excess noise they are exposed to every day. This way they can just listen to their inner voice and of course, to what their body is telling them. From the dim lighting and soft relaxation sounds to the aromatherapy scents in the air, all of your senses are finally in tune at the same time. And the message they are hearing is simple. Relax. Be present.
I always ask my clients if they would like a silent treatment and if they do, then I respect that they are being fully present during their massage. They are in the moment and helping their body make the most of the massage by focusing on their senses and the sensations. Getting a silent treatment is a very calm and peaceful experience. And I think that is a very good thing.
